Every Voice Endorses Russ Feingold for Senate
Feingold Will Strengthen Our Democracy and Reduce the Power of Money in Politics
Washington, D.C. — Today, national campaign finance watchdog Every Voice, endorsed Russ Feingold in the race to represent the state of Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate citing his commitment to reducing the power of money in politics and raising up the voices of everyday people in the political process.
Statement from David Donnelly, president and CEO of Every Voice, on endorsing Feingold:
“Russ Feingold has spent his career fighting for a democracy that works for all of us and we’re looking forward to him once again championing these issues in the U.S. Senate. We’re proud to endorse Russ Feingold for Senate because he knows it’s not enough to complain about the broken system, you must fight to change it. He has shown time and time again he’ll lead those fights.”
Feingold has said that if elected he will oppose Citizens United and support legislation to give everyday people a bigger voice in our political system including small-donor public financing, while his opponent Ron Johnson hasn’t offered any substantive plans to address voters’ concern about the power of big money in our politics.
For the first time in its 20-year history, Every Voice is formally endorsing candidates in key House and Senate races this cycle, supporting those who have pledged to fight for policies that’ll reduce the power of big money and give everyday people a bigger voice in politics.
Every Voice Action, an affiliated independent expenditure committee, will target reform-minded voters on this issue through strategic digital communications outreach in key battleground states.
This month, Every Voice made it’s first ever endorsement in the race for president, backing Hillary Clinton. In response, Clinton pledged to work with others to forward a pro-reform agenda saying, “To strengthen our democracy, we need to get secret, unaccountable money out of our politics and get the voices of Americans back in. Every Voice is leading that fight… If elected, this will be a top priority for my presidency. And I will be a strong partner to everyone working toward that goal.”
Poll after poll has shown that voters are fed up with our broken political system, and a bipartisan majority of Americans support an overhaul of our campaign finance system to reduce the power of money in politics. Seventy-two percent of Americans including majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents support small-donor public financing systems like those backed by Every Voice endorsed candidates, according to an Every Voice/Democracy Corps poll.
“The issue of money in politics is unavoidable this election season,” said Donnelly. “Voters are looking for candidates that understand their deep frustration with our political system and, importantly, who have a plan to fix it.”
Every Voice is a national nonpartisan organization fighting for a democracy that works for everyone.
